  • check the disk you desire to make an vhd epitome from with chkdsk earlier, seen weird vhd errors when the original disk had unresolved errors fixed past chkdsk

  • Hullo,

Did you lot become whatsoever issue if you mount the VHD to a virtual machine every bit data VHD and open it? If the event continues, in that location may be some issue occurred during the convert of the disk2vhd.

  • There are a couple of border cases that are described in the disk2vhd tool page: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-united states/sysinternals/ee656415.aspx

For example:practice non attach to VHDs on the same organization on which y'all created them if you plan on booting from them.

Please make sure that you practise non striking those cases.

The other matter I have heard is that if the VHD is located on a network share, people seem to hit this issue. Not sure if that's the case with you.

didn't become any issues when I attached the vhd

didn't attach it to the same organisation it was created on, information technology's located on the local hard drive of the hyper-5 server

  • Hi!

I'g merely shooting some thoughts here:

Is the organization partition inside the vhd set as active? Yous tin mount the vhd in disk manager and correct-click c: and choose "Marker partition every bit active", and run into if that helps. The system reserved partition is often set as the agile sectionalization.

Or maybe the physical server booted off a storage controller that is now absent-minded in Hyper-Five?

Have you tried running the startup repair utility found on the installation media?

  • Hello!

I'm merely shooting some thoughts hither:

Is the system partition within the vhd prepare as active? You lot can mountain the vhd in disk manager and right-click c: and cull "Mark partition as active", and see if that helps. The organization reserved partition is oft set equally the active partitioning.

Or perchance the concrete server booted off a storage controller that is at present absent-minded in Hyper-V?

Have y'all tried running the startup repair utility institute on the installation media?

Helpful, Mike, thanks... I set mine to active and the mistake changed to 'BOOTMGR is missing'. Even that much progress made me feel better.  I don't know how to fix that yet, or whether I need to 'gear up' the 100MB partition that was set as active earlier.

Any thoughts would be helpful, and right now I'thou off to do some searching myself.

    Thanks,

David (had the same problem manifestly)

  • Old post, merely I crossed information technology several times. You probably institute out, but the reason is exactly considering you forgot to check the "System Reserved" partition. I only got the same error, then redid with disk2vhd after reading another post. Worked fine with Hyper-v

  • This Is def the key, make certain you also tick the "System Reserved" , in fact disk2vhd should come up with a alarm when converting a c:\ drive that to make information technology bootable the system reserved sectionalisation as well needs to be included!

  • Came here searching for the exact same solution, and this solved it. Thanks.

  • I stock-still it, without converting the "Organization Reserved" sectionalisation,  past:

Setting the organization partition within the vhd set equally agile: Y'all tin can mountain the vhd in disk manager and right-click c: and choose "Marker partition as active".

And then boot the VM from a Windows CD and select Repair Your Computer - Troubleshoot - Advanced options - Startup Repair

  • Thank you and then much!

I did it exactly as described, and information technology solved my trouble!

  • thanks for pointing out missing organization reserved as the root cause.

It takes too much time to re-generate the whole vhd, and I cannot observe my windows installation media.

I regenerate only the arrangement reserved sectionalisation  with disk2vhd, backup the partition with diskgenius into a  .pmf file,  and restore the .pmf file to the "empty" system reserved segmentation in the first vhd file I generated.

  • Excelente aporte. Funciono. TKS.
